Citroen lets rip

CITROEN is adding a leisure-orientated version of its versatile SpaceTourer model, of which there are already a remarkable 20 different variants.

This latest one is the result of a collaboration with Rip Curl and is aimed at the sort of folk who will be planning to maximise the vehicle’s many sporting and leisure attributes this summer.

The SpaceTourer Rip Curl weighs in at £34,700 and is offered in a choice of 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines with manual transmission only.

The vehicle offers seating for up to eight people and in Rip Curl guise comes with a host of distinctive new features inside and out.

Rip Curl, as the ocean-orientated name suggests, is a brand that is synonymous with surfing, which is a theme exploited by this limited edition SpaceTourer.

There are trendy eye-catching colour schemes, higher-quality materials and extra technology features.

Based on the Feel trim level, the Rip Curl version gets Onyx Black door mirrors and side rubbing strips, plus dark tinted rear side windows. There are also 17-inch Curve monotone alloy wheels and special Rip Curl decals on the front doors.

Inside, the dashboard boasts a laser-engraved design in silver, which also graces all the front and rear side panels. There is a special instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch colour display and illuminated chrome plate surrounds. It is also equipped with a Mistral full-grain multifunction leather steering wheel and special Mistral floor mats with coloured stitching and a ‘Rip Curl’ logo on the front mats.

Useful kit includes Citroen Connect Nav on a seven-inch touchscreen, a colour head-up display, keyless entry and start, blind spot monitoring, hill start assist and the Citroen Connect Box with its SOS Pack included. Access for people and equipment is via a split opening tailgate and a second sliding side door.

There is a large panoramic sunroof, split-folding removable 60/40 rear benches and a flat folding front passenger seat for carrying long objects, such as a surf board.

The Rip Curl also comes with rear air conditioning with a so-called soft diffusion system to prevent icy blasts.

In standard guise there are five seats and masses of luggage space, but this can be swapped for an eight-seat configuration instead.

Those venturing over slippery or loose surfaces, such as grass or sand, will benefit from the Grip Control System that offers five different traction modes.

The two engines are a 1.5-litre diesel with 120bhp and a 2.0-litre version with 150bhp, each of which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The order book for the vehicle opens today with prices of £34,700 and £36,180.
