SKODA is to introduce a luxurious version of its large SUV Kodiaq model, whilst adding new engine choices to coincide with its arrival.

Named after the company’s founders, Laurin and Klement, the new flagship version is to be known as the Skoda Kodiaq L&K.

Skoda has one of the car industry’s most loyal followings, with satisfied owners sticking with the brand as they gradually move up the range.

This is why the company is adding a more premium version of its largest offering to cater for those who might otherwise switch to a Kia, Hyundai or even an Audi or Mercedes.

Nonetheless, in the world of Skoda ownership, running costs remain a priority, which is why the Kodiaq is not saddled with large gas-guzzling engines.

Indeed, such is the efficiency of latest technology advancements that a petrol engine of just 1.5 litres with a power output of 150bhp is up to the job.

This new unit is added alongside another new offering of two litres, with an output of 190bhp.

These engines come with particulate filters and can be mated to a new highly-sophisticated seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

This engine and transmission combination also applies to the two turbodiesel engines on offer, with outputs of 150bhp and 190bhp.

Four wheel drive is standard on both 190bhp engines and is optional on the 150bhp units, with adaptive chassis control as a further cost option.

The top-of-the-range L&K model gets eye-catching new 19-inch Sirius alloy wheels, full LED headlights and a different grille with vertical slats and chrome trim.

The front wings have badges bearing the words Laurin & Klement,

whilst inside there is a new three-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel.

There is also an electrically adjustable driver's seat including memory function.

Door sills are added, which bear the Kodiaq model logo, and there are aluminium pedals, textile floor mats, a rain sensor, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, ambient lighting and a high-end Canton sound system.

At this stage there is no indication of L&K prices, although the Kodiaq currently costs up to more than £35,000.
