Skoda’s special edition Octavia

19 February 2019

SKODA is following the lead of Nissan and some other car companies by introducing a special-edition of its best-selling model that claims to offer more for less.

In the case of the Skoda Octavia the newcomer is the SE Drive, which is based on the standard SE model.

It gets extra equipment that Skoda says is worth £1,300 if punters paid the full retail price to have the kit fitted, but the company is raising the cost of the car by just £550.

In theory it means that the additional equipment is a bargain, although that is only true if you would have bought it anyway.

The advantage to the company is that they get more money for the vehicle although it does not cost them anywhere near the full retail price to add it on at the manufacturing stage.

In theory, then, everyone is a winner, and experience shows that this ploy does actually boost sales.

Priced from £20,155, the SE Drive can be specified in both hatch and estate forms and comes with three engine options – two petrol and one diesel, with DSG transmission available on all three engines. The SE Drive engine range starts with a 1.0-litre petrol unit with 115bhp, with a more powerful 1.5-litre version generating 150bhp just above it. The diesel option is a 1.6 trubodiesel unit with 115bhp capable of achieving up to 55mpg  i9n the case of the SE Drive hatchback with six-speed manual transmission.

All SE Drive models are equipped with 17-inch Denom alloy wheels as standard, along with Amundsen navigation with integrated WiFi and textile floor mats.

Among the technology features included as standard are acoustic rear parking sensors, cruise control, driver fatigue sensor, driving mode selection and driver personalisation including three keys.

In terms of creature comforts, the SE Drive model comes with electrically adjustable and heated mirrors, a three-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel and dual-zone air conditioning with humidity sensor and control. And, in keeping with Skoda tradition, owners also get an umbrella under the passenger seat.

The Octavia SE Drive is available to order now with prices ranging from £20,155 for the 1.0 TSI hatch model up to £24,715 for the 1.6 TDI DSG model.
